Tony Sum has been with his clients every step of the way since 2006, from the hard work and strategic planning to the celebration of their successful transactions. As co-founder of Upswing Real Estate, he uses his keen attention to detail to manage even the most intricate situations while maintaining a steady focus on the big picture.
Before beginning his real estate career, Tony was an attorney with a practice that encompassed business, construction, real estate, and corporate law. Tony’s extensive experience with complex contracts and intense negotiations gives his clients the advantage, and he gets enormous satisfaction from getting them the best deals possible. Having successfully navigated his clients through all types of economic uncertainties from the dot-com bust to the Great Recession in 2008 to the COVID-19 pandemic Tony is an approachable and trustworthy partner who treats every purchase or sale as his own. Looking out for his client’s best interests is Tony’s top priority. He diligently counsels his clients to help them make the best decisions and relentlessly advocates and negotiates their behalf.
Outside the office, Tony cherishes time with his wife and daughter. A dedicated dad, he’s always there to support his daughter at her soccer games and dance recitals. Tony recharges by walking his dog, Coco, and training in krav maga. He loves baseball, traveling, and experiencing new food. Giving back to his community is also a big part of Tony’s life: Some of his favorite organizations include the San Jose Buddhist Church Betsuin, the Monterey Bay Aquarium, and Children’s Discovery Museum. In addition to a bachelor’s degree in economics and political science, Tony holds two advanced degrees: a law degree from UC Davis and a master’s degree in sports management from Long Beach State University.
