Google Expands Holdings in Downtown San Jose

Google has continued to expand its investment in downtown San Jose property in their quest for a transit-oriented village near the Diridon train station and SAP Center. The most recent acquisition came at the beginning of this month with the purchase of a 5,600 square foot commercial building at 50 S Montgomery Street.

The tech titan has been purchasing property in this area since December 2016. Google has now spent $409.3 million on an assortment of office and industrial buildings in the downtown San Jose area surrounding Diridon station.

The proposal from Google is a sprawling campus that is integrated into the surrounding community with homes, restaurants, nature trails, and retail in addition to the office spaces.

“The Montgomery property was purchased at $623 a square foot,” said Bob Staedler, principal executive with Silicon Valley Synergy, a land-use consultancy. “Its location made it a must-buy for Google.”
