One South Market Demolition Has Begun in Downtown San Jose

The corner of Santa Clara and Market Streets looks radically different today. Gone are the decades old buildings, and soon to rise up is a new residential tower. One South Market by KT Properties, the builders of the Axis condo building, broke ground today on the southwest corner of Market and Santa Clara Streets in downtown San Jose. The 23-story residential project will feature approximately 6,000 square feet of retail on the ground floor, and possibly the second floor. 312 apartments will be built in over a quarter million square feet. Amenities will include a swimming pool and Jacuzzi on the 4th floor, a fitness room, a community kitchen, and terraces on the 4th and 17th floors. Plans also call for 420 parking spaces, about half of which will be underground. The latest renderings show a shimmering glass structure that will have a major impact on the visual landscape of downtown San Jose. One of the more interesting aspects is a vertical LED light display that runs from the ground up to the top of the tower. We could see some interesting visual effects. Leasing should begin in the spring of 2015.
